Oliviera A superb olive oil shop come charming restaurant with simple French food cooked in simple surroundings. The owner Nadim offers traditional dishes of rabbit stew, saucisse lentille, 5 tomato salad with the finest Provençal oil drizzled over each carefully prepared dish. It's not the cheapest for traditional food but this is a great opportunity to enjoy the variety of olives oil the region produces.

Lou Pilha Leva Fast food the Niçois way. An outdoor snack bar with communal picnic tables that does a roaring trade. Socca, a chickpea pancake, is the local fast food. Also served is pissaladiere (caramelised onion tart) , farci (vegetables stuffed with mincemeat and herbs), pan bagnat (tuna salad on a crusty bread), beignets (fish or vegetables fried in butter), salads, pizza and of course beer and wine.

Le Bistro Fromager Cheese fanatics will feel at home in this atmospheric and rustic cave setting. Recently taken over by the Loubert brothers you will be taken on a journey through quality cheese dishes and bioorganic wines. The brothers speak perfect English and will guide you through the menu of seasonal dishes and after take you to the wine cellar to ensure you pick the right organic wine for your dish and pallete. The menu changes seasonally but amongst some of the choices are - buffalo mozzarella filled with soft cream served with fresh asparagus, rocket and parma ham, tartiflette – a traditional potato, bacon, cream and reblochon cheese dish from the French Alps, Tagliatelle a la Gregoire - a pasta dish tossed into a large parmesan cheese before serving. Cheese dishes can be ordered alongside charcuterie plates with parma ham and smoked beef. There are also alternatives to cheese - salmon, duck and veal.

Resto Wine Notes This laid back wine bar owned by Marietta Themans provides contemporary French fayre in a friendly relaxing atmosphere. Tire Bouchon Cosy and seductive red lit bistro with crisp white table cloths and intimate atmosphere. The 3 course set menu is excellent value at around 24 Euros and 30 Euros. Enjoy entrees of warm goats cheese with artichokes and green apple crisps, duck pate with figs and red onion marmelade and mains that include roasted swordfish with onion sauce and aniseed, beef fillet with balsamic and hazlenut sauce. this is a great value restaurant for a special occasion. The quality of the food and the ambience could justify a higher price.

Le Locale This traditional Italian deli combines the serving counter and shelves of a shop with the tables and chairs of a restaurant. Serving authentic Italian food from a menu that changes daily you can choose fish, meat or vegatable dishes from each of the different courses on offer. It’s great to sit outside in the evening or sample the atmopsheric interior surrounded by shelves full of wines, oils and pasta. The Snug & Cellar YNA GREAT VALUE is a cute English style Gastro pub in the centre of the Old Town with a big sunny terrace area outside. L’Escale – Festival des Moules If Moules Frites are what you’re looking for then look no further. This unassuming restaurant in the Port is the place to come for good quality mussels served in an array of different sauces and accompanied, of course with fries. From the traditional Moules Mariniere to the more exotic Moules Creole there is a sauce to tempt everyone and if you have the appetite to finish your huge bowl of mussels they will bring you another serving in the lid of the bowl absolutely free !

Le Safari The sunniest terrace in Nice and a firm favourite with tourists and locals alike. This incredibly busy and popular restaurant is not solely vegetarian but it has some good veggie options. Lightly battered fried courgettes/ zucchini, excellent salads include artichoke hearts, grilled peppers, tomato and mozzarella and Accra (spicy battered fish). They also have excellent wood fired pizzas, pastas and seafood.

Le Lodge is in a great location tucked away on a side street on the pedestrian zone, moments from the promenade. It has a very pleasant warm and friendly atmosphere and is usually quite busy for lunch.
Although not specifically vegetarian this is a great value restaurant with many vegetarian options to choose from. The specialities here are the enormous salads which range from 9-13 euros.

La Zucca Magica (The Magic Pumpkin) This is an Italian owned only vegetarian restaurant by the port in Nice. In our experience you are either going to love it or hate it. There is no menu and you are served the set menu of the day, which is a surprise! Wine is from the house list – red, white or rose. So you need an open palette when going here. The set menu at lunch is the best value at around 20 euros including a glass of wine. The evening menu can be slightly pricey at around 80 euros, but you are given many courses. Bollywood Lollywood One of the best kept secrets in Nice. This authentic Indian is hidden away down a side street off place Massena but it is well worth taking the trouble to track it down if you are hankering for a decent Indian meal.

La Reserve This restaurant and bar is worth a visit just for the spectacular views across Nice. It has 2 restaurants, a bistro and the Michelin star Jouni. The emphasis is on combining simple fresh produce to maximise natural flavours. It also has a lovely bar which you can go to even if you are not eating. Enjoy a crisp glass of chilled provençal wine or a cocktail with waves splashing up over the rocks below.
Le Bistro is on the ground floor and has a contemporary lounge style feel with stunning terrace. The lunchtime menu is 30 € for 2 courses. There is a strong seafood presence and the menu changes daily.
Jouni is on the upper floor and is the award winning Michelin star restaurant. Starters and main courses are similar in price around 30-40 €. Desserts are 18-24 €. So for a 3 course meal including wine expect to pay in the region of 250 € for 2 people.

La Petite Maison is a Nice institution. President Sarkozy eats here when in town. It is eccentric and renown for its simple but fresh French food. The menu is not cheap and you are paying to rub shoulders with French rich and famous. Le Bar du Coin and Pizza Sud. Two of the best places for great value, delicious pizzas for around 10 € are Le Bar du Coin in the Old Town and Pizza Sud in the Port. Both places are very friendly and their pizzas are above and beyond most similar restaurants. Highly recommended if you want something cheap and cheerful yet deliciously filling. Both restaurants do take out so you can relax in your apartment with pizza and a DVD.
