‘Bistro d'Antoine is one of my favourite restaurants in Nice. If you are looking for good authentic French cuisine – meats, cassoulet, and an amazing selection of starters that are so big you can have two instead of a main course, then this is the place to head for. Remember to book a table a day or so in advance as it’s incredibly popular with the locals, always a good sign.’

Bistro d'Antoine 27 Rue de la Préfecture, Old Town, Nice 06000. Tel: 0033 (0)4 93 85 29 57 (Reservation Highly Recommended. Annual closing in August)

‘The Île Sainte-Marguerite is my recommendation. This beautiful island is a 15 minute boat ride from Cannes. (The Trans Cote Azur) It's has a stunning little village made up of 20 houses and the little beaches are deserted so you can take a dip in the sea in privacy. It’s incredibly peaceful here and for me a very special day out.’

I love watching the sun go down at the end of the day, sitting on the far side of the port with a cold glass of Rose. There are several restaurants and places where you can sit outside, but, for me Ma Nolans pub has a big terrace area and from there you can watch the yachts come and go and bask in the warms rays of the setting sun – marvelous!

Every summer I like to treat myself to a day at one of the private beaches on the promenade. There are so many of them its hard to pick a favourite, Florida Beach is nice and cheaper as is further away form the Old Town, the Beau Rivage is a classic and a must (but in my opinion a little expensive). I keep finding myself returning to Castel Plage, the one at the end of the promenade before you head around the peninsula to the port. Last year I hired a sunbed and umbrella for the day (around 15E) and spent my time being fed cocktails by the lovely waiter before dipping into the med to cool down. If you want to treat yourself then this is the way to do it.

Nice is my home town. There are so many places i want to share. But, if you are here for a short time I think you need to taste Nicoise food as it is very different to the rest of France. Socca can only be described as a chickpea pancake and beignets are battered and deep fried courgettes, pissaladiere (onion pizza)  petits farcis are vegetables like courgettes, tomoatoes, onions stuffed with spicy mince. i love it. You can find lots of socca places in the Old Town. There is a lady who sells really good socca on the cours saleya - the market place in the Old Town. But please try it and find out what is special about Nice food.

Beach beach Beach. It's all about the beach for me. A day at Villefranche has to be the highlight of my week. Nice beach is lovely but I have a confession - I hate Pebbles. So, it's 10 mins on the bus to Villefranche which has a lovely sandy beach, stunning picturesque cove and the quaintist village ever. When you've had enought of the sun there are some gorgeous restaurants in tiny little streets to enjoy good food. I cannot reccomend it enough.
